Truth #31 of 52
THE OTTER
“Life is more than responsibilities, routines, and simply making it through the day. True fulfillment comes from experiencing joy, creating memories, and embracing the moments that make life worth living.”
Somewhere along the way, a lot of us forgot how to live. We got busy. Bills showed up. Responsibilities piled up. The calendar filled up.
And before we knew it, life became something we managed instead of something we experienced.
I’ve been guilty of it too.
There have been seasons where I was so focused on getting through the week that I forgot to enjoy the day I was standing in. So focused on the next goal, the next problem, the next thing that needed fixed, that I missed the simple moments that were happening right in front of me.
The otter seems to understand something many people don’t.
Life isn’t just about survival.
It’s about joy.
Watch an otter for five minutes and you’ll see it. They play when they don’t have to. They explore when there’s no reward. They seem to understand that existing and living are not the same thing.
And neither are they for us.
One day you’ll realize the things you remember most weren’t the meetings, the deadlines, or the endless to-do lists.
They were the road trips.
The laughter.
The sunsets.
The conversations that lasted too long.
The people you love.
The moments you almost rushed past.
That’s the tragedy of always waiting for someday.
Someday becomes next year.
Next year becomes ten years.
And eventually you realize life wasn’t happening later.
It was happening the whole time.
I’m not saying responsibilities don’t matter.
They do.
But so does living.
So does taking the trip.
Calling the friend.
Watching the sunset.
Laughing until your stomach hurts.
Buying the ice cream.
Taking the picture.
Making the memory.
Because at the end of your life, nobody is going to wish they had spent more time surviving.
They’re going to wish they had spent more time living.
