Truth #16 of 100
THE HOUND
“True loyalty doesn’t keep score. It doesn’t disappear when things get difficult. It remains steady, patient, and present, even when time and distance get in the way.”
I’ve met a lot of people in my life. Some stayed. Some left. Some made promises they never intended to keep.
That’s just part of life.
But if you’ve ever had a good dog, you know there’s something different about them.
They don’t care if you had a good day or a bad one.
They don’t care how much money is in your bank account.
They don’t care what mistakes you made ten years ago.
They don’t care whether the world thinks you’re important.
They’re just happy you’re home.
I think that’s why dogs connect with us the way they do.
In a world where so much feels conditional, their loyalty isn’t.
They wait.
They watch.
They hope.
And every time you walk through that door, they greet you like you’ve just returned from a war, even if all you did was go to the grocery store.
There’s something beautiful about that.
The hound on the porch isn’t wondering if you’re successful.
It isn’t keeping score.
It isn’t holding a grudge.
It’s simply waiting for someone it loves.
Maybe that’s why this image hits so many people in the heart.
Because deep down, I think all of us want to know there’s a place where we’re wanted. A place where we don’t have to perform, impress, or pretend. A place where somebody is genuinely glad we’re there.
The hound reminds us that love doesn’t have to be complicated.
Sometimes it’s as simple as showing up.
Waiting.
And being there when someone comes home.
