THE HAT
“The hat isn’t about the hat. It’s about the life lived underneath it. Character, values, kindness, and purpose are what people remember long after we’re gone. Your legacy isn’t what you wore, it’s what you stood for.”
Most people know me by the hat. Not because it’s expensive. Not because it’s fashionable. Not because it’s unique. It’s just a Stetson.
A piece of felt shaped by time, weather, miles, and memories.
But somewhere along the way, it became more than a hat.
It became a reminder.
A reminder that none of us get remembered for what we owned.
We get remembered for how we showed up.
The truth is, one day the hat will hang on a hook.
The videos will stop.
The conversations will end.
The miles will be traveled.
The stories will be told.
And all that will remain is the impact we left behind.
Did we help someone?
Did we encourage someone?
Did we make a difference when nobody was watching?
Did we leave the world a little better than we found it?
That’s the real question.
Because when people talk about you years from now, they won’t remember your bank account.
They won’t remember what truck you drove.
They won’t remember what title was on your business card.
They’ll remember how you made them feel.
They’ll remember whether you stood for something.
For me, the hat has always represented a simple belief:
Live Life. Do Good. Be Happy.
Live Life.
Because tomorrow isn’t promised.
Do Good.
Because kindness costs less than regret.
Be Happy.
Because life is too short to spend it angry at the world.
If people remember me someday, I hope it isn’t because of the hat.
I hope it’s because the hat reminded them of the man underneath it.
A man who tried to leave things a little better than he found them.
A man who believed ordinary people could make an extraordinary difference.
A man who wore a hat, but stood for something bigger.
Because in the end, the hat isn’t my legacy.
The life behind it is.
